We’re excited to get started on your boat!
Before you bring it in, we just need a little prep on your end to help us work smoothly. Whether it’s a new top, windows, upholstery, or flooring, we need space to safely move around, measure, and install everything properly.
Here’s a quick checklist to get your boat ready:
-
- Clear out decor – candles, pillows, baskets, signs, picture frames, trays, glasses, etc.
-
- Stow loose gear – ropes, cables, paddles.
-
- Put away lifejackets – or take them off the boat for now.
-
- Remove toys and extras – skateboards, bikes, scooters, balls, etc.
-
- Take out water gear – fishing poles, tackle boxes, noodles, lily pads, wakeboards, kneeboards, tubes, etc.
- Remove coolers and any portable fridges in the cockpit/bridge area.
This might seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised what we’ve seen! If anything’s left behind, we’ll give you a call to come move it. If we can’t reach you, we’ll take care of it and bill for the time spent at our shop rate of $125/hour.
* Please note Canadian Yacht Tops will not be held liable or responsible for lost or stolen items, damage or theft to your vessel or items while your boat gets work done to it at our shop, at your property, or boat slip.
Thanks for helping us out — we can’t wait to get going on your project. See you soon!

Canadian Yacht Tops – Sunbrella & vinyl window care tips
Here are some quick care tips to keep your Sunbrella canvas and vinyl windows looking great:
Sunbrella Fabric Tips:
-
- Break-in period: New fabric and thread can take 6–10 rainfalls to fully swell and start wicking. Leaking is normal and it’s going to happen. Some will say it leaked a bit, while others will say it leaked a lot. There’s no way to speed this process up. If there was we’d be on it already. Just know it’s normal as we talked about when you picked up your boat.
-
- If your boat is in a covered slip, be sure to expose it to rain so the fabric can “season/wick” properly.
-
- Never fold your canvas or windows—roll and store them in a shaded, safe place away from pets and kids.
-
- Clean monthly with a hose, elbow grease or soft brush (like you’d use on your car). For stains, use mild soap (like Dawn) and rinse well.
-
- Air dry only—never put Sunbrella in a dryer.
- After deep cleaning, reapply waterproofing about every 2 years (e.g., Watershedz or 303 Fabric Guard).
Vinyl Window Care:
-
- Rinse with water and wash with mild soap or a vinyl cleaner like Klear to Sea.
-
- A 1:10 vinegar-water mix also works well for a streak-free shine.
-
- For deeper cleaning, use marine vinyl-specific products.
- Use a cotton rag or cloth for cleaning. Paper towel or micro fibre will cause little swirls.
Routine cleaning = long lasting clarity and protection.
Enjoy the season and your time on the water!
